Hi everyone and welcome to number 7 in my series of Card Making for Beginners. Today we are talking about one of the basic things you will need to make a card - the card blank (otherwise known as card base) - and also using card stock to add additional layers or matts. I'll be showing you how to cut your card stock to make your own card blanks and how to measure and cut layers and matts to step your cards up a bit. So from this which we made last time:
we will get to this:
As you will know, and have seen with the first card, previously in this series I have recommended that for beginners our notecards are perfect. And they are!
These are great not only for beginners but also for anyone wanting to make a quick card - I use them a lot! They are on Page 153 of the Annual catalogue and are available in Whisper White and Very Vanilla. Coming in packs of 20 cards and envelopes, they cost just £6.50 and are made of our super smooth thick Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock which is perfect for stamping. The envelopes are smooth too!
The only problem with our notecards is that they are a set size - 12.7cm x 8.9cm and sometimes you would like to make a different sized card, or a different shape. That's where making your own card blanks can be really helpful. If this is something that interests you, do have a watch of the video where I explain everything you need to know about doing that.

I do hope you'll take a look at the video, whether a beginner or not. And don't forget, I am always happy to help if you have any questions.
Happy crafting,
